MENU DESIGN MELBOURNE
xCreative™ designs menus for restaurants, cafes and tea houses, including Vicci Tom, Rōnin Omakase and The Rong Tea. Dine-in, takeaway, boards and the phone-screen versions, in English and Chinese where the kitchen speaks both.
The menu is the only marketing document every single customer reads, holds and orders from. It earns more revenue per page than anything else you will ever print, and most venues treat it as a typing job. That gap is our favourite kind of opportunity.
Menus
The highest-earning document in your venue, designed like it.
01
Menu Engineering
Where the eye lands, what gets anchored, which dishes carry the margin: layout is pricing strategy wearing design clothes. We structure menus so the dishes you need to sell sit where eyes actually go, which changes weekly takings without changing a recipe.
02
Dine-In & Formats
Menus that survive service: readable in dim light, wipeable or reprintable, sized for the table. Rōnin‘s carries its calligraphic identity into the omakase sequence, because the menu is part of the theatre.
03
Bilingual Menus
English and Chinese set as one designed document, not a translation squeezed into leftover space. Vicci Tom and JIAO ZI order in both languages daily, and our bilingual studio sets both correctly, including the dishes that refuse literal translation.
04
Boards & Counter Menus
Overhead boards and counter cards for fast service, where a customer decides in eight seconds and the queue cannot stall. TEA BAG‘s menu system feeds exactly that pace.
05
Photography & Digital
Dish photography shot for the menu, the website and the delivery platforms in one session, so the burger on the app is the burger on the table. Platform menus get designed, not just uploaded.
06
Updates & Reprints
Menus change with seasons and suppliers, so we build files your reprints cannot break and turn updates around at kitchen pace. A venue still hand-editing a PDF from 2022 knows exactly why this matters.
How we work
Four steps, one team, no handovers.
01
Taste & Margins
We read the menu with the owner: what sells, what carries margin, what the kitchen wants gone. Numbers first, fonts later.
02
Structure
Sections, sequence and eye-flow mapped before any styling, because order is the actual persuasion.
04
Produce
Print, boards and digital versions delivered together, with files ready for the next seasonal change.
Why xCreative
Why menus from a branding studio.
A menu typed by the printer lists food. A menu designed by the studio that built the brand continues the story the shopfront started, which is why our venue clients hand tourists a menu that feels like the room. Consistency between door, table and plate is most of what “atmosphere” means, and the menu sits in the middle of it.
We also respect the operational truth: menus are working documents. Prices move, dishes die, suppliers vanish. Our files are built for that life, and our turnaround assumes a kitchen deadline, because it always is one.
FAQ
Questions clients ask us.
01
Can you redesign our menu without rebranding the venue?
Yes. We work inside your existing identity and quietly tighten it. If the brand itself is the ceiling, we will say so, but the menu alone still moves takings.
02
Do you write or translate the dish descriptions?
Both. Appetite copy in English, proper Chinese where needed, and honest advice on dishes whose names should stay untranslated with a one-line description doing the work.
03
How fast can you turn a seasonal update?
Days, not weeks, because the files were built for change. New menu items, prices and a reprint-ready file inside the week is normal service.
04
What does menu design cost?
A single-page cafe menu and a multi-format bilingual system are different jobs. Tell us the venue and the formats and we will quote it straight.
